The impacts of climate change induced extreme weather is wreaking havoc on local communities across Caribbean Islands Nations following Hurricane Maria and Hurricane Irma. This article analyzes how imperialism, capitalism, gender inequality and unstable political settings have created a context where disasters exacerbate existing social vulnerabilities. In turn, recovery is impeded for those marginalized in society, particularly, the poor and women.
