A School of Geography research group from Leeds University is partnering with Indonesian organizations to create ‘Gender Jeopardy,’ an engaging game that celebrates trans resilience and climate activism. Indonesian designers and illustrators are also assisting the project, which includes a board game with accompanying characters and a comic. It centers on the experiences of Sanggar Seroja, a performance group founded by trans women from Jakarta, Indonesia. The group has over twenty years experience in art and activism, practicing and performing both traditional and contemporary art forms. The board game demonstrates scenarios such as environmental disasters, poverty, gender discrimination, and family trauma which have helped people to relate on their shared experiences. It is meant to demonstrate both the unique challenges faced by certain groups, as well as their immense resilience, creativity, and power. The game also promotes practical actions for environmental activism at the community level and conveys how these themes intersect with broader social and health justice issues.
