While chanting “Our land, our lives, women let us mobilize,” a mass assembly of rural women from across Africa adopted a charter demanding land justice for women. In the 9th Annual African Union Gender Pre-Summit in Addis Ababa, these demands were officially endorsed. For African women facing inequalities in access to and control over land, this legal endorsement by the African Union is significant but concrete strategies, policies and infrastructure to make these demands a reality are now more pertinent than ever.
