Envisioning Resilience: Women’s frontline experiences in shaping climate change adaptation planning
This video by the National Adaptation Plan Global Network highlights the involvement of Jamaican women in the Envisioning Resilience photography and storytelling initiative. Participants attended a workshop to learn photography and communication skills, enabling them to share their local realities and frame their experiences in terms of climate science. The initiative also facilitated dialogue among stakeholders from governmental, academic, civil service, and private sectors, providing a platform for the participants to share their insights and concerns. By amplifying diverse voices and engaging with local communities, the initiative contributes to the development of a robust National Action Plan for Jamaica's climate adaptation efforts. The photography helps collective storytelling and broadens the discussion to include local communities, sharing visions for practices of resilience. The climate photographs made by the trainee women also identified new details and issues for policy makers to pay attention to when designing climate safe societies. By centering the discussion around local experiences, the initiative ensures that adaptation policies are grounded in the realities of those most affected by climate change. Ultimately, the Envisioning Resilience initiative serves as a powerful example of grassroots engagement driving meaningful action towards a more resilient and sustainable future.
