Kanahus Manuel, a determined woman Indigenous leader, is leading her First Nation’s movement to fight a dirty tar sands pipeline expansion. If built, the pipeline would bisect the Secwepemc First Nation’s territory in British Columbia and threaten their livelihood, water and the Earth’s climate. This blog, published by Greenpeace, includes testimony from Manuel about her personal and cultural motivations to fight the fossil fuel industry, the risks she faces specifically as a woman in doing so, and how she came to form the group, Tiny House Warriors (THW).
