Canada’s only Indigenous-led climate justice organization, Indigenous Climate Action, has named as its Executive Director Indigenous woman leader, Eriel Tchekwie Deranger of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation. Eriel has spent many years working with environmental organizations, and front-line Indigenous water protectors and land defenders across her region and around the world. She is an advocate with the United Nations Indigenous Peoples Caucus, and has proven to be a vital leader both on the streets and in the halls of international conferences and meetings. With her leadership, the organization will look forward to produce a Indigenous Knowledge Climate Change Toolkit, and deepening community engagement and movement building for Indigenous led climate action in Canada.
