Shannon Dosemagen is the cofounder and president of the Public Laboratory for Open Technology and Science. Through her organization, Dosemagen offers an open-source platform for community-based science to target environmental pollution and protect public health with a justice lens. The project stemmed from her efforts to develop “community satellites” to document and make transparent the impacts of oil spills. Believing that impacted communities should have access to tools to defend themselves and create change, Dosemagen and the Public Lab connect the public to technology and expertise to collaborate on environmental justice solutions.
