Josephine Mandamin, a Canadian First Nation elder of the Wikwemikong people, has spent years taking action to protect her Native culture while building awareness about the detrimental impacts of pollution, fracking and water privatization. Since 2003, she has been a leader of the Sacred Water Walks, walking the shorelines of the Great Lakes to raise awareness about the impact of oil pollution on water.
